DAY 14

Activity: Look up the Danish concept of Hygge, which is, among other things, the practice of being present in the moment.

“Hygge literally only requires a conscious appreciation, a certain slowness, and the ability to not just be present – but recognize and enjoy the present. That’s why so many people distill ‘hygge’ down to being a ‘feeling’ – because if you don’t feel hygge, you probably aren’t using the word right.”

Need a video to figure out how to say this word?? hahah! Yeah, me too. https://youtu.be/A2lnlAOAcKQ

Oil: Thieves in the diffuser to bring all the cozy homebody feels.

Why Does Presence Matter?

I am not good at slowing down. Hurry here. Scurry there. Put your shoes on! Leave that lizard alone! Put down that rock! Get in the car!

Ugh, I cringe as I realize my haste has made things worse and not better. Stop. Be intentional. Be present. When I focus on the external, the to-do list, the outward trappings, I rob myself of the joy that could be mine in the present moment. How many times have I looked up from my work to see a dinosaur headed to attack me and scolded the 3-year-old that wielded it? I am worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.

What Does Scripture Say?

Luke 10:38-42 – As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.

But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

What Will You Do?

Today’s Scripture really speaks for itself. What is distracting you from the better thing? Allow the Lord to convict you of the ways you have been worried and upset about the things that are not needed. Be present today in your life and family.
