Activity: Try a relaxing essential oil blend. Don’t mind if I do!!

Oils: a blend of Lavender, Frankincense, and Stress Away is a great option. Also, Release is quickly becoming a favorite for daily “chill out, mama” moments. But, diffuse or roll-on whatever you fancy!

Why Oils?

Did you know that the ONLY one of our 5 senses that interacts with our emotional brain before our logical brain is your sense of smell? It’s true! Our response to smell is powerful and automatic. Scent travels through the nasal passages, past the olfactory bulb, and straight to the limbic system.

The limbic system is the center of our emotional brain. And, within the limbic system, you’ve got the amygdala and hippocampus. These two sections of the brain link memories based on common feeling rather than common thought. (Bonus tip: that common feeling not only attaches an emotion, but also a location in your body.)

The amygdala is the alarm area of the brain responsible for our fight/flight/freeze response. Like a smoke detector, the amygdala has one job: RED ALERT! WE ARE IN DANGER! EVERYONE PANIC!!

Now, the hippocampus is involved in the formation of memories and can be directly stimulated by scent through the olfactory bulb. Like a scrapbook full of pages, the job of the hippocampus is to record and link: HAPPY? OH, YES. YOU BELONG WITH THESE MEMORIES OVER HERE. GUILTY? OK, COME OVER HERE TO THIS SIDE. ANXIOUS? YEP, RIGHT DOWN FRONT… SWIFTLY NOW!

So, as you can imagine, there are tremendous advantages to using essential oils to get to the emotional center of the brain. Consider oils a tool in the toolbox to help you handle overwhelming emotions in a more healthy way.

The entire Aroma Freedom Technique is built upon scent’s unique access to the emotional brain. Combining focusing exercises, body awareness, and Young Living’s pure therapeutic grade essential oils, emotionally charged memories lose their sway. Not in a “oh, that’s nice and relaxing” way. In a LEGIT “whoa, did that terrifying memory just dissolve before my minds eye?” way.

The memory isn’t gone (AFT doesn’t make you forget), but the memory is forever altered. ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭94:19‬ ‭ – When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

We console ourselves with a great many things – some healthy, some not so healthy (turns out, those Ben & Jerry’s pints are NOT single serving – who knew??). When we allow the Lord to console us, rather than reaching outward for consolation, then we experience joy. His presence can calm our anxiety and bring peace to our heart.

Through Aroma Freedom Technique I have experienced lasting release from the memories that once bound me and the barriers that were keeping me from doing what I am made to do.
